Doctrine matters because what we believe shapes how we live. Scripture calls the church to hold firmly to sound teaching—not just in belief, but in everyday life. What we believe about God, ourselves, and the world influences our worship, our relationships, our decisions, and our hope. When we understand who God is and what He has done for us in Jesus, we have a steady foundation to stand on, even when life is uncertain.

All of our beliefs are rooted in Scripture. At Waterfront we believe the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for Christian belief and living. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. We teach that the Bible plays an indispensable part in living a dynamic Christian life. It builds up, transforms, encourages, corrects and protects the believer’s life as he or she studies and applies it.

We believe there is one God who eter­nal­ly exists in three per­sons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spir­it. We believe that Jesus Christ, the sec­ond per­son of the Holy Trin­i­ty, was born of a vir­gin, lived a sin­less life, died a sac­ri­fi­cial death for the sins of the world, rose bod­i­ly from the dead, ascend­ed into Heav­en, and is com­ing again to judge the liv­ing and the dead and to estab­lish God’s king­dom of right­eous­ness and peace on Earth.

We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

We believe that sal­va­tion comes through Jesus alone. It is by His grace and work on the cross that we can experience eternal life, not by our own works. God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. No person is beyond God’s saving grace; and no person is exempt from God’s empowering call to holiness.

We believe in the Holy Spirit who regenerates and indwells every believer in Jesus, assures us of our salvation, guides us into all truth, glorifies Jesus, and convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and empowers us for service.

We believe that the Church is the entire body of believers in Jesus Christ, who is the founder and only Head of the Church. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by loving him, obeying him, and bringing the gospel to the world. Every believer shares in this mission.

We believe every man and woman is created to glorify God. Some do so through singleness while others do so through marriage. Marriage is an institution ordained by God and intended to be a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman to display Jesus’ sacrificial love for His bride, the Church, and the Church’s love for Him.
